Set Up Users for the First Time

To set up users for the first time

Accounting user

  1. In the Home window on the Setup menu, choose Set Up Users & Roles.
  2. (Optional) Add a new role.
  3. On the Users tab, click the Add User button.
  4. Type a User Name up to fourteen characters long, and then select Accounting User as the User Type.
  5. In the Enter Password box, type a password up to seven characters long. Passwords, which are case sensitive, can have both letters and numbers.
  6. In the Re-enter Password box, verify the password by retyping it.
  7. Select the security role or user rights you want to give this user. The Custom role is assigned to all users whose rights are not based on a role, even though these users may have different access rights.
  8. (Optional) To limit this user's access to individual reports, click the Advanced Reporting button. Within each module on the left, set the Rights column of any report in the table to Full Access or No Access.
  9. To control whether a user can read or edit data using non-Sage Simply Accounting software (like Crystal Reports), in the User's Rights with Third Party Products section, select what kind of access you want to give the user. For security reasons, it is safest to leave this option as the default of No Data Access.
  10. Click OK to close the Add User window.
  11. Click Close.

Time slip user

  1. In the Home window on the Setup menu, choose Set Up Users & Roles.
  2. On the Users tab, click the Add User button.
  3. Type a User Name up to fourteen characters long, and then select Time Slip Entry User as the User Type.
  4. In the Enter Password box, type a password up to seven characters long. Both letters and numbers may be used.
  5. In the Re-enter Password box, verify the password by retyping it.
  6. Choose between allowing this time slip user to enter all time slips or only the time slips for a specified user.
  7. Click OK to close the Add User window.
  8. Click Close.

Note: Once you have set up users, all users must always enter a user name and password to open company data.
