User Rights and Non-Sage Simply Accounting Products

Once you add a password for the system administrator, a non-Sage Simply Accounting product (like Crystal Reports or Microsoft Access) needs a user name and password in order to open company data.

If you want to allow other people access to the data, but don't want to give them your system administrator password, you can give them a separate user name and password and grant them limited access rights. Adding or changing the security rights of users, allows you to control whether they can read or edit the company's data, as shown in the table below.

Users whose access rights are initially defined by a security role can only get third-party access rights added to their user profile. (Enterprise)

Access Rights Description
No data access The user can only alter the data from within Sage Simply Accounting.
Read data The user can read all of your company data from a non-Sage Simply Accounting product (except for reports in which the user has no viewing rights) even if the user has limited access rights in Sage Simply Accounting.
Read and write data The user can read and alter the data using a non-Sage Simply Accounting product. We strongly recommend that you do not alter data outside of Sage Simply Accounting to avoid violating accounting rules without receiving the appropriate warnings.
