Installing Sage Simply Accounting

When you install Sage Simply Accounting, you need to know how many computers must have access to your company data and how your company's computers are set up.

Do you store your company data on a file server?

If your company data is, or will be, stored on a Windows file server, perform a server-only installation of Sage Simply Accounting on your server. This option installs the MySQL Connector and the Sage Simply Accounting Connection Manager service that manages all connections to your company data. It does not install the Sage Simply Accounting program. To learn more, see Standard Network setup below.

Note that if you store your data on a Windows Server (2003, 2008, or Small Business Server 2003), you need to perform additional setup tasks so that other users can access your Sage Simply Accounting data.

Using Linux?

You can also store your data on a number of supported Linux servers. To learn more about supported Linux distributions, and to download the Sage Simply Accounting Connection Manager for Linux, visit www.simplyaccounting.com/install.

Standalone Computer

This is the most common installation choice for small businesses. If you only need to use Sage Simply Accounting on one computer,

You or your system administrator need to:

Perform a Full Installation of Sage Simply Accounting on your computer.

Networked Computers

Before you install Sage Simply Accounting on your networked computers:

Standard Network (Recommended)

How it works:

Your computers are set up in a standard network configuration, which means that you store your company data on a server and Sage Simply Accounting users connect to the server to open your company data.

You or your network administrator need to:

Perform a Full Installation of Sage Simply Accounting on every computer that will be used to open your company data.

Perform a Server-Only Installation of Sage Simply Accounting on the computer (server) where you are storing your company data.

Peer-to-Peer Network

How it works:

Your computers are set up in a peer-to-peer network configuration, which means that you store your company data on a computer that also runs Sage Simply Accounting while other Sage Simply Accounting users connect to this computer to open your company data.

You or your network administrator need to:

Perform a Full Installation of Sage Simply Accounting on the computer that stores the company data and on every computer that needs to open your company data.

Depending on your network setup, you may want to change the Connection Manager's port settings after you have finished installing Sage Simply Accounting on your network.

Multi-user Note:

If you want to allow more users to work on your company at a time, you need to have a multi-user licence. If you do not have a multi-user licence, you can upgrade your software by contacting our Customer Sales department.
